Another television station in Nigeria has been bitten by the Gardener's bug. This evening, MITV would begin showing the first episode of "La hija del Jardinero" ("The Gardener's Daughter") at 6.00 p.m. In actual fact MITV was the first TV to advertise the Mexican telenovela.
Rumor mills however says that because of the unexpected but explosive commercial success of "Cuando Seas Mia" ("When You are Mine"), the MITV bargained for a higher cut of the 'Gardener's pie' than it took from Cuando. MYTV disagreed and the stalemate, is what led to AIT being the first to flag off the soap opera on the 23rd of August, 2006. AIT is now about 12 episodes ahead of MITV.
For us viewers, it is a great opportunity of choice and breaking of monopoly of only a single television station airing the Latin soap. It is also a way for those of us that miss any episode from AIT to be reassured that we would still pick it up on MITV.
We hope that the cut-throat competition that may result from this healthy entertainment would enhance and not hurt millions of viewers and lovers of this soap in Nigeria.
We have received interesting correspondences from Ghana and Malaysia, we hope to give you the 'low-down' during our normal week 3- weekend review, on Saturday and Sunday.
Thank God, It's Friday, Happy Weekend to all our darling readers and subscribers.
Congratulations to all.
